Today the prayers I have been giving for about 2 1/2 years came true. 11-11-11 is truly a wonderful day. My dearest friend Thomas made it back to America from Iraq today and should be back in Idaho within a week. Two Februaries ago I was told he was going to be deployed to Iraq. That was probably one of the hardest nights of my life. My mom wasn't there to help me once I got home and I was terribly frightened for him. Roughly a year later he left for Iraq.
You've got to understand.
This boy is the very best friend I have ever had.
He is the first one I run to when I have a problem; whether they be about school, friends, and yes, even boys. He's the one that brings me ice cream and hugs, who laughs at me when I'm being silly, and gives the best advice. He is amazing.
I was lucky, though. He got two weeks of leave and wanted to come home in June, about halfway through his deployment.
He couldn't.
He came home for my birthday.
It wasn't intentional on his part, but I know Heavenly Father brought him home then for a reason.
It was the best birthday present I have ever received.
Now Thomas will be home again. This time for good until he goes on his mission. That one will be easier to let him go. True, he'll be gone for twice as long, but there's something comforting in knowing that he won't be carrying a gun or driving a big nasty vehicle looking for bombs. Instead he'll be carrying a Book of Mormon, riding a bike, and looking for investigators.
Today at school there were soldiers honoring casualties on campus. They would call out the name and then put a flag in the ground in their honor. I stood there, watched, and listened for about 45 minutes today.
Today my prayers were answered and I should see my best friend very soon.
I am so blessed. :)
